The House and Accessibility
Barn Drift offers a really remarkable and comfortable home with space and air in a unique and stunning location in one of the most beautiful areas of England. Designed with ease of access in mind all ground floor areas are fully wheel chair accessible from the drive into the hall, kitchen, dining room, drawing room and ground floor loo. The hall, kitchen and drawing room all have wide doors leading onto the paved terrace, sheltered under 4 Persian Ironwood trees providing extensive shade. With 8 double or twin bedrooms (the choice being yours), 7 bathrooms, 6 of which are ensuite with a collection of showers, rain rooms and bathrooms, the accommodation is excellent and suitable for guests with a variety of requirements. While no bedroom is suitable for guests permanently in wheelchairs, six of the 8 are easily accessed via 6 steps with excellent handrails fixed to the wall. The generous design of the house, each room beautifully decorated, offers complete privacy along with immense comfort and wonderful open living spaces in which to safely enjoy large parties. The property has been expertly and sympathetically restored to an exceptionally high standard. With small or large parties in mind care has been taken to retain the unmistakable charm of the ancient building, combined with every modern convenience, including high speed WiFi opening windows in all rooms and good lighting. Accessed from an established farm track that takes you right up to the front door and to The Hangar – all totally surrounded by private farm land, fields, meadows and woodland Barn Drift stands in its own extensive grounds, within which are three sheltered, original walled gardens accessed directly from the house through large, south facing French doors. The Hangar and its loo all on one level is fully accessible to all without restriction.
The Garden
In the middle of private farm land that has been in the same family for generations Barn Drift is surrounded by acres of its own gardens with panoramic views of the sea, Blakeney Point and the Glaven Valley. Organically gardened with three South facing walled gardens as well as extensive lawns and woodland, all accessed from the house – Barn Drift gardens offer the perfect outside space for any occasion from a family lunch, corporate retreat or wedding.
APPROXIMATE GARDEN MEASUREMENTS:
Enclosed walled garden descriptions areas only are detailed here, each walled garden is connected to the next. There are immense larger areas of lawn outside the walled gardens to the west and north, ideal for any marquee size and all overlooking the valley, salt marsh and sea.
16 x 11 meters ~ 1st gravel Walled Garden, in which is the front door, outdoor table tennis and large sliding glass doors from bedroom 8 (or second sitting room) partially bordered with flower beds. This walled garden can be secured for dogs.
14 x 17 meters ~ 2nd Middle Walled Garden, paved terrace with 4 ‘umbrella-pruned’ Persian Ironwood trees, 3 meters tall covering an area measuring approximately 12 square meters centrally. Around the paved terrace is lawn bordered with flower beds and espaliered fruit trees.
13 x 15 meters ~ 3rd End Walled Garden, lawn with dining hall bifold doors opening totally onto 2 wide steps running along the 15 meter length of the dining room. The walls are ruined to the west, partially covered with climbing roses and revealing views across the valley and out to Blakeney Point. Beyond this walled garden is the larger lawn to the west and north of the house.
